Positive reinforcement is the best way to train almost every dog. It teaches dogs to work out in their minds how to get a treat/reward as opposed to doing something because they’re going to get in trouble otherwise.

Bella is a shelter dog, so when I adopted her in August, she was pre-trained! Mostly anyway. She already knew to go potty outside, she barely barks, and she’s very sweet. 

I did teach her to sit, though, and that took several sessions to make her understand what a trick is.

Schnauzers are generally considered great to work with by trainers. The best advice is to start as early as possible and to work in 15 minute segments- dogs are like small children: their attention span only lasts but so long!
